Mandatory Onboarding Documentation

Mandatory Onboarding Documentation

Step 1: Pre-placement Mandatory Onboarding via Alchemer

The link below “Mandatory Onboarding” must be completed minimum fourteen (14) days prior to your start date — this is applicable to ALL Clinical Students and Clinical Instructors, even if you are current SHN Staff, or are a Nurse Practitioner student. This must be completed each term you have placement with SHN, even if your placements are consecutive terms. There are no exceptions.

Ready to get started with onboarding?

Please click on the link below to be redirected to an external application (Alchemer) where you will begin your onboarding process. This may take several hours to complete — plan your time accordingly. Your placement will not be permitted to begin until it is completed in full.

You will have the option to save and continue as you move through the various e-Learning modules and Policy reviews. At this time, there is no audio to the modules.

Once you have completed all mandatory onboarding documentation, you will then “submit” your profile. Once you “submit”, you will not be able to go back and make any changes. So ensure that you have used your school-issued email address and have followed instructions properly.

**Note: In order to obtain an access badge and computer access, students must complete all components of the Alchemer entirely. Failure to do so may jeopardize eligibility to begin placement at SHN. You will NOT be granted IT access PRIOR to the start of your official placement start-date.

Step 2: Pre-placement Obligations

Step 3: In-class Orientation

Preceptored students (1:1): In-class orientation for students consists of IPAC Review, COVID-19 Review and Donning & Doffing of PPE Competency Checklist sign-off. Your school placement office will alert you to the pre-assigned mandatory in-class orientation that will be scheduled to take place near the start of each term. In-class orientation is a separate obligation from your mandatory pre-placement onboarding. Students are not permitted to start their placement until the required pre-placement obligations identified in Step 2 are completed, and they have attended their mandatory in-class orientation session.

All in-class orientation sessions are pre-assigned to ensure compliance with physical distancing protocols; all students are expected to attend where they are assigned. Students may not switch their spot to be with a friend or significant other.

Student Groups with a Clinical Instructor: Students who are placed in a group will have the same required IPAC Review COVID-19 Review and Donning and Doffing of PPE Competency Checklist sign-off with their Clinical Instructor and the Unit’s Clinical Practice Leader (CPL). The group is not permitted to start on the unit until this last step of pre-placement onboarding is completed.
