SHN is ‘Where the World Comes to Work’

Scarborough Health Network (SHN) is reimagining healthcare recruitment with the launch of its brand-new recruitment campaign, “Where the World Comes to Work,” inviting nurses and other healthcare workers, from new graduates to experienced leaders, to apply today.

Inspired by the rich diversity of our workforce and accelerated by the widespread health human resource challenges brought to light during the pandemic, “Where the World Comes to Work” is a vital recruitment solution to attract the best healthcare professionals as SHN grows its reputation for innovation in healthcare.

“As one of the most diverse communities in Canada, the Scarborough catchment area offers healthcare workers an opportunity like no other,” said Michele James, Executive Vice President, People and Transformation. “‘Where the World Comes to Work’ highlights Scarborough and SHN as places where cultures, ethnicities, genders, faiths, and life experiences come together—and how we place tremendous value on the way these factors contribute to exceptional quality care.

Designed to celebrate the global nature of SHN’s workforce, community, and healthcare, the recruitment brand strategy will roll out in phases, starting with introducing job seekers to five featured SHN staff through a digital ad campaign in Wave 1. Using stylized images and video, creative assets feature quotes and objects that represent each individual’s story and journey, highlighting a key aspect of what is important to each of them about coming to work at SHN.

“I am thrilled to invite talented nurses and other healthcare workers from right here in Scarborough, to the rest of Canada and around the globe, to consider joining the exceptional and talented group of employees and medical staff who are already working at SHN,” said Glyn Boatswain, Chief Nursing and Allied Professionals Executive. “SHN is the ideal destination for healthcare professionals seeking to broaden your knowledge, enhance your skills, and contribute to the advancement in delivering exceptional quality care. We pride ourselves on our collaborative, inclusive culture where all individuals feel valued and respected, and can bring their authentic selves to work, every day.”

Weekly for the next two months, SHN will publish new content highlighting one staff member’s story inspired by their own lived experience. Audiences will hear about the SHN workplace directly from:

Building upon SHN’s proven recruitment approaches, including virtual job fairs, careers-focused social media accounts (@SHNcareers on Instagram and Twitter), and digital advertising, Wave 2 will feature a new set of SHN staff in a second digital advertising campaign this fall. Future recruitment waves will roll out pop-up career booths at SHN hospitals, the first-ever “Where the World Comes to Work Job Fair,” and the launch of a new Careers microsite on SHN.ca.

The campaign will complement SHN’s competitive compensation packages, robust employee engagement and recognition initiatives, commitment to staff wellness and well-being, and a leading Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) strategy that includes voluntary, staff-led Communities of Inclusion (COI) including: Pride (for employees, learners, volunteers, and medical professionals who identify as 2SLGBTQ+ and their allies), BUILD (Blacks United for Inclusion, Leadership and Development), and HOPE (Helping our Parents/Guardians Excel), with more COIs under development.

Looking beyond recruitment, SHN believes in recognizing and rewarding individuals and teams, through supporting continuing education and by offering meaningful opportunities for growth, learning and development. Driven by leadership development and succession planning, SHN is committed to developing talent from within and promoting high-potential staff to leadership positions.

“Where the World Comes to Work” is aligned to SHN’s EDI strategy, that seeks to eliminate all barriers to achieving equitable outcomes for staff, volunteers, learners, and patients alike. For more information, visit SHN.ca/careers.
