SHN is extremely excited to have started construction on new and renewed patient registration areas at each of our three hospitals.

At the General and Birchmount hospitals, existing registration areas will be refreshed and self-serve registration kiosks will be installed.

At the Centenary hospital, we are constructing central registration areas with new self-serve kiosks in the Margaret Birch Wing and in the Admitting & Registration area near the hospital’s Main entrance.

These renderings give a sense of what the new spaces will look like and are not exact representations.

What you can expect at our hospitals over the next few months

How you register when you arrive at our hospitals for an appointment will not change during the construction phase (September 20, 2021 – December 3, 2021) and our people will be there to help make sure you get to your appointment quickly and safely.

At the General hospital,  portions of the existing registration area are closed off to build the new registration space.

At Birchmount hospital, a temporary registration office has been set up in the central hallway near the elevators on the Main floor.  Follow the signs from the main entrance to the new registration area.

At Centenary hospital: some of our registration staff  and services will be temporarily located in the Volunteer Services space (near the stairs) on the Main floor until late October.

This work will not affect how you or your family members access any of our Emergency Departments.

Why we are making these changes

One-Stop

The new registration areas will allow you to register once for your appointments at a central location instead of multiple times if you are attending multiple clinics/facilities.

Improving Your Patient Experience

Kiosks will be staffed by Registration personnel (including on evenings and weekends) who will assist with any issues using the kiosk, answer questions and help direct you to your appointment. The kiosks will allow you to privately register in a designated area instead of a waiting room.
