Four years ago, Scarborough Health Network (SHN) began trailblazing inclusive health care practices with our leading ROAD to Equity: Health Equity Certificate Program. Designed to empower those delivering health care to promote accessible health and develop strategies to reduce health disparities, the groundbreaking program has had an incredible impact. As a result, staff and leaders from our hospital and many community partner organizations are better meeting the needs of our most vulnerable patients across Scarborough.

As one cohort wraps up…

On June 12, SHN proudly celebrated the achievements of our fourth cohort to complete the program. The virtual convocation ceremony including senior leadership team members, program sponsors, and facilitators, and featured keynote speaker Dr. Andrew Boozary, primary care physician, policy practitioner, researcher, and founding executive director of the Gattuso Centre for Social Medicine at the University Health Network.

Having started the course in fall 2023, our graduates took part in sessions on a range of topics, including Indigenous health; disability and social exclusion; race, racism and oppression; refugee and newcomer health; mental health and addictions; gender and 2SLGBTQ+; income and employment; and housing and food security. Here are reflections from some of our grads on the impact of the course:
