ALL students and volunteers are required to obtain an ID badge.
ID badges will not be issued until all Mandatory Onboarding Documentation and Training has been submitted.
You must complete onboarding documentation and training prior to your start date in order to be eligible for an ID badge.
You must present a valid piece of government ID to Security when obtaining your ID badge.
If you lose your ID badge, please notify Security ASAP.
Please note all ID badges are being processed by the Security Office at all sites. The access card will be blank. Students must wear their school issued student ID at all times. There is a $10 non-refundable fee for the student ID card. The fee can be paid at the Security office at either site by debit only. Cash will not be accepted.
There is a $25.00 refundable deposit for all volunteers. The deposit can be paid at the Gift Shops at either site.
The ID badges will be processed at each respective site as follows:
- Birchmount Hospital – Level 1 – Finance/Security Office – Room #1711
(Monday, Wednesday, and Friday: 10 a.m. to 12 noon) - General Hospital – Ground Floor, Crockford Wing, across from Gain Clinic
(Monday, Wednesday, and Friday: 10 a.m. to 12 noon) - Centenary Hospital – Level 1, Margaret Birch entrance)
(Monday to Friday: 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m)
Security will set the deactivation date of the Students’ card to coincide with the placement dates.

- Security officers patrol the facility, and closed-circuit cameras are located in all public areas.
- Security escorts to your vehicle are available upon request. Please be advised that other calls may take priority, and you may be required to wait until an officer is available.
- Valuables and large amounts of cash should not be brought to your placement. Offices and vehicles should never be left unlocked, and valuable items should be kept secured/out of view.
- If you notice anyone acting in a suspicious manner, or appears to be out of place, please report it to your Security office at your site.
Onsite Parking for volunteers is free.
Onsite Parking fees for students is $66 for 30 days.
The students will be able to purchase parking at either campus from the parking office. The parking offices are located as follows:
- Birchmount Hospital – Main floor, opposite the drug store
- General Hospital – Ground Level of the Parking Garage
- Centenary Hospital – Security Office Level 1, Margaret Birch Wing entrance
- Birchmount hospital – Located on the 1st level, across from Health Records
- General hospital – Located on ground floor, North wing, across from the Breathing Centre
- Centenary hospital – Located on the 1st floor of the Margaret Birch Wing – Rm. 1200
The hospital uses an internal computer network to securely share information. This means that the intranet is only accessible through devices connected to the hospital network.
The intranet is used as a vehicle for communicating and connecting with people, collaborating, and enabling web-based services. The intranet is the default website via the internet browser and is accessible on every computer in the hospital. You will be able to access documents, policy & procedure manuals, and other resources that you will require when you are on placement at the hospital.
If the intranet is required for your placement, please speak with your manager or supervisor.
Wifi access will not be granted for students and volunteers.

- Tim Hortons on the main floor, nearest the north entrance
- Pharmacy on the main floor
Centenary Hospital
- Tim Hortons, Sbarro, Subway, La Prep Cafe, Taste of the Mediterranean are all located on the 2nd floor (which is the main floor)
- Shoppers Drug Mart (9 a.m. to 9 p.m.) and Gift Shop also located on the 2nd floor
General Hospital
- Cafeteria on the ground floor, near the Tower elevators and the Lawrence Avenue exit doors
- Tim Hortons on the ground floor inside the Medical Mall entrance
- Rexall Pharmacy and Gift Shop located on the ground floor inside the Medical Mall entrance
- Birchmount Hospital – Near the Tim Hortons
- Centenary Hospital – Located in the main lobby next to the Telecommunications window and in the Margaret Birch Wing by Security
- General Hospital – Near the Rexall Pharmacy
