On March 17, eight people were brutally murdered in Atlanta, Georgia in what is being described as racially motivated violence. Six of the victims are women of Asian descent. Sadly, since the start of the pandemic there have been thousands of incidents of anti-Asian violence around the world, including right here in Canada.

Scarborough Health Network (SHN) condemns these horrific incidents. We extend our support to our staff and community members of Asian descent for the pain these incidents have caused.

Recognizing the International Day for the Elimination of Racism on March 21, we raise our voices with others world-wide to re-affirm our opposition to all forms of racism: SHN serves one of Canada’s most diverse communities. We celebrate our differences and stand together in the face of adversity.

Racism, intolerance and bigotry have no place in our hospitals, our community, or anywhere. We stand against racism and violence and are committed to listening, understanding and continuing to put policies and practices into action that ensure equitable, compassionate and inclusive care for all.
