Scarborough has continued to see a high rate of COVID-19 cases and community spread over the course of the past weeks. At Scarborough Health Network (SHN) we are dedicated to taking the necessary measures to ensure the safety of our staff, patients and community.

Changes to the surgical program – Thursday, November 19 to Friday, November 27

  • Non-urgent surgical inpatient cases will be deferred;
  • Day procedures will continue across all three hospitals;
  • Urgent and emergent procedures will continue across all three hospitals; and
  • Regional service and cancer surgery will continue across all three hospitals

These changes will be in place until November 27 with ongoing evaluation of hospital pressures with the goal of resuming inpatient elective services as of November 30.

Emergency departments will remain open at all three hospitals during these changes. These changes will in no way affect the delivery of emergency services, surgical or otherwise. At SHN we are committed to caring for all of our surgical patients. We will coordinate with these patients to reschedule their non-emergency procedures at a later date.

As we continue to navigate the proactive measures necessary during the COVID-19 pandemic, we will review the need for these deferrals on a weekly basis and will continue to keep the community informed.
